3/21/2023 0 Comments Changes![]() 2023 began with a reevaluation of my future as a writer. My focus shifted last year to gardening, cooking and knitting. Let me explain. Like most of you, my family has been feeling the pinch at the grocery store. Outside of peak season, leafy greens and other vegetables have become extremely expensive, when we can get them at all. So I decided to see what I could grow under lights in the family shed over the winter. Of course the learning curve has been steep (I'm a writer not a farmer) and I've made some mistakes. Happily, enough plants thrived to almost keep us supplied with fresh salad greens this winter. I'm now branching out into sprouts and shoots. Will keep you posted on how that works out. My sweetie and I have been making changes to our eating habits and have successfully switched to low carb and almost no sugar. We eat two meals a day and fast for at least 14-16 hours between supper and brunch the next day. It has had a positive impact on both of us. It began as an effort to ward off diabetes and has become a diet of choice for us. We feel so much better eating this way. We've both shed some weight (actually I've lost a lot), with no change in activity level. One of the unexpected bonuses of our dietary change has been a reduction in my hand stiffness and pain. That's what caused me to stop knitting some years ago. So, I tentatively picked up my needles this past fall and started knitting. Four wool skirts later, I'm showing no adverse effects, and I have new clothes that actually fit my now smaller frame. Of course, all this keeps me away from my keyboard. (sigh) In truth, it has been a welcome reprieve. My sweetie pointed out that with more than 60 titles, I may have already written my best seller. She suggested that instead of fussing over my writer's block, I focus attention on the stories I've already written. So 2023 will see a relaunch of some of my favorite series, maybe even some new covers and another round of editing. (Translated, there may be second editions in my future.) In the meantime, I'm learning the art of "the reel" on Instagram and Facebook as a way of introducing my stories to new readers. This is new territory for me, so if any tech savvy fans out there have any tips, I'd love to hear from you. You can reach me at: prudymac@gmail.com
